چکیده

We report on follow-up spectroscopy and photometry of the cataclysmic variable candidate HS 0907+1902 selected from the Hamburg Quasar Survey. B, V , and R photometry obtained during the first observed outburst of HS 0907+1902 (V ≈ 13) reveals deep eclipses (∆V ≈ 2.1 − 2.8) and an orbital period Porb = 4.2 h with the eclipse depth decreasing to the red. The outburst eclipse profiles are symmetric, indicating an axisymmetrical brightness distribution in the accretion disc. We derive an inclination i ≈ 73◦ − 79◦ from the eclipse duration. The quiescent spectrum obtained with the Hobby-Eberly Telescope shows double peaked emission lines of H I, He I and Fe I,II and clearly identifies the system as a dwarf nova. Absorption features of the secondary star are detected at red wavelengths from which a spectral class M3± 1.5 and a distance of d = 320 ± 100 pc are derived.

Spectroscopy and Component Masses of the Eclipsing Dwarf Nova HS 0907 + 1902

HS0907+1902 was recently discovered to be one of a handful of deeply eclipsing dwarf novae with periods longward of the 2 – 3 hr ‘gap’. This paper presents orbit-resolved spectra and time series photometry of an eclipse. The apparent velocity amplitude of the M-dwarf secondary is K2 = 297 ± 15 km s . The phase of the radial velocities of the Hα emission line wings agrees accurately (for once) w...

HS 1804 + 6753 : a new eclipsing CV above the period gap ?

We present spectroscopic and photometric observations of the cataclysmic variable HS 1804 + 6753, a new eclipsing dwarf nova of the UGem class. Its apparent visual brightness in quiescence is Mv ≈ 14. During its frequent outbursts the brightness increases by 1 − 2.3. From our photometric data, we determined the orbital period to be P = 0.2099370 ± 0.0000001. The spectroscopic observations show ...

Detection of Two-armed Spiral Shocks on the Accretion Disk of the Eclipsing Fast Nova V1494 Aquilae

We have modeled the unusual orbital light curve of V1494 Aquilae (Nova Aquilae 1999 No.2) and found that such an unusual orbital light curve can be reproduced when there exist two-armed, spiral shocks on the accretion disk. V1494 Aql is a fast classical nova and found to be an eclipsing system with the orbital period of 0.1346138 days in the late phase of the nova outburst. Its orbital light cu...

Outburst Photometry of the Eclipsing Dwarf Nova GY Cancri

We observed the ROSAT-selected eclipsing dwarf nova GY Cnc (=RX J0909.8+1849) during the 2001 November outburst. We refined the orbital period to be 0.17544251(5) d. The fading portion of the outburst was indistinguishable from those of typical dwarf novae with similar orbital periods. However, the signature of orbital humps (or a hot spot) was far less prominently observed in the orbital light...

High speed photometry of faint Cataclysmic Variables : III . V 842

We present further results from a high speed photometric survey of faint cataclysmic variables. We find that V842 Cen (Nova Cen 1986 No. 2) is highly active, but with no evident orbital modulation. BY Cir (Nova Cir 1995) is an eclipsing system with an orbital period (Porb) of 6.76 h. TV Crv, an SU UMa type dwarf nova, is found to have Porb = 1.509 h from photometry at quiescence. DD Cir (Nova C...
